About the job
Salary: $18,000 – $25,000 per monthAbout Set SailSet Sail Venture Limited is a Hong Kong technology company that builds AI products - chatbots, voicebots, and email automation powered by LLMs and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). We run our own products and deliver client projects for enterprise and public-sector organisations. Some of these systems run on Google Cloud; others run on-premises in our clients' own data centres, often in restricted or air-gapped networks.About the roleAs a Junior Platform Engineer, you will help keep these systems deployed, observable, and reliable. This is not a ticket-only operations role: you will read and change backend code, write the tooling that ties services together, and work on-site with clients when a deployment or incident needs hands on the servers. You will work directly with a senior engineer and grow into owning parts of the platform end to end. This role suits fresh graduates or engineers with 0-2 years of experience.Key responsibilitiesDeploy and operate services: ship containerised services to Kubernetes and Docker hosts across development, UAT, and production environments, in both cloud and on-premises clusters. Follow and improve rollout, rollback, and verification runbooks.Work on-site: install, upgrade, and troubleshoot systems at client premises, including environments with no internet access, where you will move images and artifacts through controlled registries and change windows.Build backend tooling: write and maintain small services, scheduled jobs, and scripts in Python (and increasingly Rust) - for example, report generators, data sync jobs, health checks, and deployment helpers.Own monitoring, alerts, and reports: maintain dashboards and alert rules, route alerts to Slack and email, tune noisy alerts, and keep scheduled health and operations reports running and accurate.Respond to incidents: take part in investigating production issues - read logs and metrics, reproduce problems, trace a request across several services, and write up what happened and what we changed.Manage infrastructure as code: make changes through Terraform, Kubernetes manifests, CI/CD pipelines, and pull requests rather than manual console edits.Document what you touch: keep READMEs, runbooks, and deployment records current so the next person can repeat your work.About youA degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electronic Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Solid programming skills in Python (or another backend language) and a basic understanding of how web APIs, databases, and background workers fit together.Comfortable on the Linux command line: processes, networking basics, logs, permissions, and shell scripting.Hands-on experience with Docker - from coursework, a homelab, or a personal project is fine.Working knowledge of Git and pull-request-based collaboration.Willingness to work on-site at client locations in Hong Kong and to occasionally support planned maintenance outside office hours.Careful, methodical habits: you check before you change, verify after you change, and write down what you did.Fluent spoken Cantonese and good spoken and written English, for working with local clients and the team.Nice to haveKubernetes experience, even from a homelab or personal project.Experience with a public cloud, ideally Google Cloud (GKE, Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring).Terraform, Helm, Ansible, or GitHub Actions.Monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or Langfuse.Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, or MinIO.Exposure to Rust, FastAPI, or Node.js/TypeScript services.Interest in LLM / RAG applications and how to run them in production.A cloud certification (e.g. Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer) or a public GitHub / homelab project you can talk us through.Spoken Mandarin.BenefitsDirect mentorship from a senior engineer, with real ownership early on.Exposure to the full lifecycle of AI products: backend, cloud, on-premises, and production operations.5-day work week, with work from home every Wednesday.Flexible working hours.Compensation leave for overtime.Sponsorship for training and certifications.Medical insurance.Snacks and drinks in the office. How to applyApply with your CV and, if you have one, a link to a project or repository you are proud of. Tell us briefly about something you deployed or debugged and what you learned from it.Personal data provided by applicants will be used only for recruitment purposes.
